Parent’s Bulletin – March 7th 2025

Please find information below about all our upcoming events, assessments and activities and get in touch via the contact details at the bottom if you have any further questions.

School Times
All students are expected to be on the school site at 8.50am in readiness for registration.

School Uniform
Thank you for your support in maintaining the standards of uniform at Ysgol Y Grango. Polite reminder that skirts need to be of an appropriate length and footwear needs to be all black. Please see the uniform guide below for more information.

Attendance
At YYG we have an ambitious target of 97% attendance or better and parental support is crucial. Please ensure your child attends school each and everyday year when they are able to do so. Thank you for your support in this very important matter.

All absences should be reported to the school on the morning of each day of absence before 9.15am and provide a valid reason for absence either by:
1.Email –                    info@grango.co.uk
2. Telephone –            01978 833010
3. Free text –              07908670242

Failure to report your child’s absence from school creates a safeguarding issue

Assembly
This week’s assemblies will focus on the theme of respect.

Energy Drinks in School
More and more in recent weeks, we are finding students are bringing bottles and cans of energy drinks into school.
A national survey in England last year found that energy drinks contributed significantly to poor behaviour and a lack of engagement in learning. Because of this and Government guidelines, energy drinks are banned from the school site and any of these drinks found will be poured away.
We understand that students may be buying them before they get to school, but we ask if you could have this conversation with your children, so that we won’t have to confiscate any more drinks from students.

Community Focused Schools
The Family Engagement Team will be coming into school regularly to meet with parents/guardians and find out what kind of support you are looking for. There will be a ‘Breakfast and a Brew’ get together on Wednesday April 9th for parents to meet the team. See the poster below for more information.

Year 11 Mock Exams
Starting this Monday March 10th, Year 11 pupils will begin their Pre-Public Examinations. Revision materials have been provided in class and guidance has been emailed home. Please see the timetable emailed home for more details on when each exam will be held.

Well-being Equipment Plea
Can you support wellbeing sessions in school?
We are looking for sports equipment such as: boxing gear, yoga mats, weighted balls, skipping ropes, resistance bands, sports bottles, etc. to help deliver wellbeing sessions to young people. If you can help, please bring donations to the school office.

Brilliant Books
Each week we recommend a ‘Brilliant Book’ for students. These books will always be aimed at young people and are available in the school Library. Our recommendation this week is ‘Windrush Child’ by Benjamin Zephaniah. Leonard is shocked when he arrives in Southampton from his home in Jamaica but he wants to make the best of their new life. Even when people hurt him. This book highlights an important voice of an untold story. Includes some strong language.

Film Club
Continuing our Science Fiction season of films in Film Club, this week we will be watching ‘Next Gen’ (12) 3.10 – 4.50pm in the Library.
All students are welcome to attend but please make sure you let someone know if you are staying behind after school. For those who are new to Film Club, please fill out the form below to give permission for your child to attend.
