Offering students a platform to voice their opinions
The purpose of our School Council is to offer Ysgol Y Grango students a platform to voice their opinions on school-related matters: learning, the environment, and the community. We prioritise student input at Ysgol Y Grango, encouraging them to participate in school decision-making processes. The School Council serves as a structured means of communication between students, staff, and the governing body, ensuring that student perspectives are heard and considered.

Student Council Structure
Within our school council we have ten subcommittees. All school council representatives are allocated to the following subcommittees and attend meetings regularly.
The introduction to subcommittees has enabled the school to distribute leadership and pupil responsibility across the school and facilitate the discussion of key areas in more depth.
School Council representatives are democratically elected to positions and there are two student associate governors who regularly attend governors’ meetings.
Fortnightly ‘Friday Feedback’
Questions will be discussed by the pupils every fortnight. The questions are determined by the subcommittees. Tutor representatives will upload the feedback onto the google forms on the tutor representatives’ Google classroom. The responses then get prioritised and discussed in the school council meetings.
School Council meetings
Regular school council meetings take place where we discuss the Ysgol Y Grango Pupil Voice. This shows we, as a school, are listening to the pupils.
Speak Week
SPEAK WEEK runs three times a year where our subcommittees meet and discuss Friday Feedback results and school survey responses.
Student Council Training
Newly elected School Council representatives are provided with the opportunity to engage in training in order to ensure they are fully equipped to undertake their roles and responsibilities.
The training involves team working activities, a close-up look at the subcommittees and making a list of priorities and matters the council would like to focus on throughout the year.

Student Council Assemblies
School Council assemblies are delivered to the whole school at the start of every academic year, so all pupils are aware of our School Council structure and our sub committees.
