Pastoral Care

Our pastoral care program is at the heart of everything we do

At Ysgol Y Grango, our pastoral care program is not just an add-on; it is an integral part of our school’s ethos. We believe that by embracing the values of “We Are, We Care, We Share,” we can help our students grow into confident, compassionate, and well-rounded individuals ready to make a positive impact in the world.

We strive to create a supportive and nurturing environment where every student feels valued, understood, and empowered to reach their full potential.

We are

We are a community committed to fostering a sense of belonging and identity among our students. We believe that every individual has unique strengths and talents, and our pastoral care program is designed to celebrate and nurture these qualities. By promoting a positive school culture, we ensure that every student feels included, respected, and part of the Ysgol Y Grango family.

We care

We care deeply about the well-being of our students. Our pastoral care team is dedicated to providing emotional, social, and academic support to help students navigate the challenges of school life. Whether it’s through one-on-one mentoring, group sessions, or simply being a listening ear, we are here to ensure that every student feels cared for and supported in their journey.

We share

We share a commitment to creating a community where kindness, empathy, and mutual respect are at the forefront. Our students are encouraged to look out for one another, share their experiences, and contribute positively to the school environment. Through various initiatives and programs, we promote the values of teamwork, cooperation, and active participation in the broader community.

School Values: Ready, Respectful, and Safe

Ready

Being ready means coming to school prepared and eager to learn. It is about having the right mindset, materials, and attitude to engage fully in all activities. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning by being punctual, organized, and attentive, which helps create a productive and focused learning environment.

Respectful

Respect is at the heart of our community. We foster an atmosphere where everyone treats each other with kindness, consideration, and dignity. This includes respecting peers, teachers, and all members of the school community, as well as valuing the school’s rules and the learning environment. By being respectful, students contribute to a positive and inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels valued and heard.

Safe

Safety is our top priority. We are committed to creating a secure environment where students feel physically and emotionally protected. This involves following school rules, being mindful of others, and promoting behaviours that ensure the well-being of everyone in the school. By staying safe, students help maintain a supportive environment where learning can flourish.

The Pastoral Team

We have an excellent pastoral care system where all individuals are known, valued and respected.

The pastoral system has its own educative purpose and prepares students to be capable, confident, ambitious and responsible citizens. Learners develop the skills, knowledge and experiences they need to equip them for the challenges of the 21st century. Pastoral activities seek to compliment the PSE programme and enable students to develop, personally, socially and emotionally, including personalised wellbeing support.

The Structure

The Pastoral Team is overseen by the Assistant Headteachers for Conduct, Culture and Ethos. Each year group has a Head of Year who oversees the students in their year group. Students are organised into tutor groups and the Form Tutor plays a pivotal role in supporting learners. The tutor will see your child every day and will be their support during their time at Ysgol y Grango and your contact for any pastoral concerns.

There are occasions which require the Pastoral Team to collaborate with other professionals for bespoke guidance and support. Therefore, the team has close internal links with the school’s ALNCO, Student Wellbeing Coordinator, Youth Workers and other external agencies.
