Peer Mentors
Peer Mentors are a collective of highly committed students who volunteer to give up their time to help and support other learners. The Peer Mentors offer help, advice and support to empower younger students to increase their self-confidence, communication, decision and problem-solving skills.
All Peer Mentors receive bespoke training to carry out their role effectively and develop a repertoire of transferrable skills which are sought after by colleges and employers.
Peer Mentor Training
In order to prepare for this role, learners are trained in the following aspects:
- the role of the Peer Mentor
- active listening skills
- confidentiality
- acceptance and empathy
- relationships and trust
- dealing with difficult problems
- supervision and guidance
Peer Mentors Support
Peer mentor support includes a wide range of issues:
- bullying
- organisation
- friendship issues
- issues in school or outside of school
- worries about the new school
- and many more…
