Parent’s Bulletin – March 21st 2025

Dear Parent/Carer,
Please find information below about all our upcoming events, assessments and activities and get in touch via the contact details at the bottom if you have any further questions.

School Times
All students are expected to be on the school site at 8.50am in readiness for registration.

School Uniform
Thank you for your support in maintaining the standards of uniform at Ysgol Y Grango. Polite reminder that skirts need to be of an appropriate length and footwear needs to be all black. Please see the uniform guide below for more information.

Attendance
At YYG we have an ambitious target of 97% attendance or better and parental support is crucial. Please ensure your child attends school each and everyday year when they are able to do so. Thank you for your support in this very important matter.

All absences should be reported to the school on the morning of each day of absence before 9.15am and provide a valid reason for absence either by:
1.Email –                      info@grango.co.uk
2. Telephone –            01978 833010
3. Free text –              07908670242

Failure to report your child’s absence from school creates a safeguarding issue

Welsh Speaking and Listening Exams
Welsh Speaking and Listening exams will continue this next week for Year 11 students. These exams will be spread over three days including Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with students chosen for either a morning or an afternoon session on the day. It is therefore imperative that all students are in school for these days.

Community Focused Schools
Community Focused Schools are now coming into school regularly to meet with parents/guardians and find out what kind of support you are looking for. There will be a ‘Breakfast and a Brew’ get together on Wednesday April 9th for parents to meet the team. See the poster below for more information.
Community Focused Schools will also be holding an Easter craft activity in school on Friday April 11th. See the poster below for more information.

Nurture Bake Sale
The Nurture department will be holding an Easter Bake Sale on Friday April 11th to raise money for trips and activities. If anyone can contribute by baking or donating cakes, cookies or other sweet treats, donations can be dropped off at the Library before school on the day.
A reminder will be sent home nearer the time.

Year 11 Prom
This year’s Prom will be held on July 2nd and letters with information have now been passed to pupils and the payment has been added to Parent Pay.

Energy Drinks in School
A reminder that energy drinks are not permitted on the school site and will be confiscated from students if they are found with them. Please have this conversation with your child to help us manage pupil’s behaviour and avoid us having to throw away these drinks. Thank you for your support with this.

Well-being Equipment Plea
Can you support wellbeing sessions in school?
We are looking for sports equipment such as: boxing gear, yoga mats, weighted balls, skipping ropes, resistance bands, sports bottles, etc. to help deliver wellbeing sessions to young people. If you can help, please bring donations to the school office.

Brilliant Books
Each week we recommend a ‘Brilliant Book’ for students. These books will always be aimed at young people and are available in the school Library. Our recommendation this week is ’13 Days of Midnight’ by Leo Hunt. Leo has just inherited $6M… and 8 ghosts who want revenge. A thrilling supernatural adventure: dark, funny, with twists at every turn. Shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Prize. Suitable for older teens.

Film Club
Continuing our Science Fiction season of films in Film Club, this week we will be watching ‘Jurassic Park (PG) 3.10 – 5.15pm in the Library.
All students are welcome to attend but please make sure you let someone know if you are staying behind after school. For those who are new to Film Club, please fill out the form below to give permission for your child to attend.
