January 8th 2024

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are looking forward to welcome all students back into school on Tuesday and hope that you have been able enjoy a restful Christmas and New Year break.

Please find information below about all our upcoming events, assessments and activities and get in touch via the contact details at the bottom if you have any further questions.

School Times
School reopens on Tuesday January 9th, all students are expected to be on the school site in readiness for registration at 8.50am.

Attendance
At Ysgol Y Grango attendance is key in ensuring our young people are able to achieve the very best in all that they do.  Regular school attendance, helps students develop their relationships with their teachers, having a positive impact on their education.  By being in the classroom pupils are learning, able to ask questions and receive any help needed.  Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance.

School community and friendships are very important to us too. Being in school is essential for our young people to develop their social skills and friendships.  Several studies have shown that students who are socially active often have better academic outcomes/grades.  Friendships can be affected by persistent absence because it can be difficult for pupils who miss school to form and develop relationships with their peers.

All absences from school should be reported on the morning of each day of absence before 9.15am and provide a valid reason.

  1. Email –            RobertsT581@hwbcymru.net ( School Attendance Officer)
  2. Telephone –    01978 833010
  3. Free Text –     07908670242

Failure to report your child’s absence from school creates a safeguarding issue.

Help Your Teen to Learn
We now have available a comprehensive resource tool from Mike Gershon, author of more than 40 books on education. This resource is free to parents who want to support their children to learn. See the letter attached for more information.

Brilliant Books
Each week we recommend a ‘Brilliant Book’ for students. These books will always be aimed at young people and are available in the school Library. Our recommendation this week is ‘Persepolis’ by Marjane Satrapi; A wise, often funny, sometimes heart-breaking graphic novel. ‘Persepolis’ tells the story of Marjane Satrapi 's life in Tehran, growing up during the Iranian Revolution.

Film Club
Our first film screening of 2024 will be ‘Wreck It Ralph’ this Tuesday 3.10pm-4.50pm. All students are welcome but please make sure parents know if you intend to stay behind after school.
